Mommy's Little Helpers

Right before Halloween, Williams Sonoma put their Halloween aprons on sale. So, I ordered personalized aprons for the kids. They are so cute! Tanner's apron is a little big, but it still looks adorable.

I love the kids' meals at Chick-Fil-A. The kids like them and the prize isn't some lame-o toy, but is usually either a book or a cd-rom or a book on cd. The last time we went to Chick-Fil-A, Timmy got a shortened version of a book called The Cooking Book by Jane Bull. What a great cookbook for kids! Pictures of everything, very hands on. Lots of fun. We've made 2 recipes out of this book and they turned out great.

Timmy has been so eager to help in the kitchen that I put him to work making pie crust. Well, helping with pie crust. He's pretty good with a pastry blender! I took 2 pies to a potluck at work today and it was sooooo good. The crust was yummy and flaky and the filling was good too.

I absolutely love making pie. I think it is my favorite because it is a challenge. I use two different recipes for pie crust. One is really easy to mix and roll out, but it isn't as flaky or flavorful. The other is your standard pie crust: harder to make but flaky and tasty. I've been working more with the flaky and flavorful one because I need to work on it -- maybe it will become less of a challenge. :) And, I love making it beautiful -- crimping the edges -- making a beautiful lattice top -- "painting" on the egg wash to make it shiny... I love pie.

For Thanksgiving this year: pecan, sugar-free pumpkin (for the diabetics in my family), caramel turtle pumpkin, regular pumpkin, cherry, apple, chess, and ?? -- one more -- I haven't decided what kind yet.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Kara, My mom makes a pie that is on Cooks.com called Holiday Praline Pie. There are several recipes the one she uses has Dream Whip as an ingrediant. It is so good. You should try it.
