Fisherman's Corner

This morning when I woke up, I had a plan. I even made a to do list on a paper plate... I was going to clean my house from top to bottom. I cleaned the kitchen, put in my third load of laundry, swept the floors and while I was mopping, my daddy called. "Let's take the boys fishing," he said. I said, "What time?" In about an hour and a half, we were on our way. (So much for cleaning house!)

Look at these silly boys! We went to Fisherman's Corner off of FM 306 near Canyon Lake. Daddy rented a pole for Ian, Timmy and Tanner. We all bathed in sunblock, and we were off. (Apparently I was not fully immersed in the sunblock-bathing experience. I'm a little burned...) Tanner caught the first fish of the day -- with a little help from Grandad, of course. He had a hard time turning the reel. Mostly I think he would have been happy if all we did was throw rocks into the pond. But before we left Tanner thought he was hot stuff. He would pick the pole up out of the holder and dip the end of the pole in the water. I think he thought he was casting. Anyway, it was super cute. :) We took a little break for some liquid refreshment. Gatorade. Red Gatorade. Notice the very red lips on these boys....

Timmy caught the next fish. And he did it all by himself! He's a natural.
He didn't want to touch the fish, though, so Grandad held it for him. Doesn't he look so proud of himself?

Ian's up next. This boy knows what he's doing.

And he's not afraid to touch it! In fact, he dropped the fish on the ground right after I snapped this picture. And Timmy wanted to take a picture too, so he picked it back up and smiled again for another picture. And then he dropped the fish again... I think this fish was the biggest of the day.

The boys each caught 2 fish for a grand total of 8.9 pounds. Tanner didn't get to touch his fish earlier, and he's absolutely fearless, so he had to give it a try.

We watched the guy fillet the fish for us and we paid and left. Tanner fell asleep in the car about 30 seconds after I took this picture. What a fun trip! Thanks for taking us Grandad! What a great escape from housework!

Yes, we had fried catfish for dinner. And it was fabulous. I rarely ever fry food, but I have to make a few exceptions: catfish and Christmas breakfast. Some things just aren't right any other way.

Those fish are huge! I fished forever when I was little and I rarely caught anything that big. sounds like you had a fun day! Your boys are lucky to have their Grandad so close!
