Today Timmy scored a goal in his soccer game! And it was actually for the correct team this time! Yay Timmy! I'm sad that his last game of the season is next week. He's just starting to get the hang of it. Oh well. Maybe we'll enroll him again in the spring. :)
After soccer, we went to a company picnic. Doug's employer rented out Time Warner Park, a huge facility primarily used for softball and sand volleyball. They catered with Grady's barbecue (which, I'm sorry to say, doesn't really count as barbecue in my family). They brought in some clowns and face painters and caricature artists, some inflatable bouncy house things, a few lame carnival-type rides and a pony ride. They do a few games like a frisbee toss...
The good thing is that everything is free. The bad thing? They never seem to realize just how many people attend an event like this. We have some friends that work in other divisions of the company. Their company outing sounded like a blast. We standed in line most of the day. I hate to be so negative about a free event. I realize that as a company, they don't have to do events like this at all. I'm glad that they do, but they should realize that some divisions of the company are larger than others, and they should bring in enough stuff to accomodate a larger crowd.
When we arrived, Doug stood in line with the kids to get balloon animals while I stood in line for caricatures. He came back with a cool airplane for Tanner and a sword for Timmy. I hadn't moved. I think I stood there for 30 minutes. I was probably 8th in line. And it hadn't moved. No caricatures for us. We got some food. The lines for food were confusing, so I think we might have cut in line, because we didn't have to wait very long. :) We ate and went to find the pony rides. We stood in line for a very long time, but the kids really enjoyed riding the horses, so that was worth it. Timmy really wanted to go down a big inflatable slide, but the line was even longer than the pony ride line, so we passed on that. On our way out, the clowns that had made the balloons for the kids were doing their Mystical Magic Show. They were hilarious! I'm bummed that we missed the beginning of it. It was really the highlight of the day for us. The magic show made the picnic a success!
