Darlene Got Married!

Last Saturday, Darlene and Gil got married! And I have some pictures to prove it. :)

The judge was a bit late. Well, he was a bit later than the wedding party. That was a little unsettling for the bride and groom, as you might imagine. Some of the guests were late too. Traffic on 410 is never pretty on the weekends with all the road closures for construction. Will the road work ever be done? Nope. This is San Antonio. But that's another story. The kids were having a blast, for about a minute after we got there, and then they were done. See?

But they sure are cute!

The stragglers made it to the courthouse, so let the ceremony begin! Gil and Darlene were married. I admit it. I cried, but only a little bit. :) Here's the happy couple...

After the ceremony, we went to Gil's uncle's home for a barbeque. It was a good time. My friend Esther made this fabulous wedding cake with only 3 or 4 days notice. Isn't she awesome? I don't recommend the short notice. That's a little stressful. Just imagine what she could do with a week's notice -- or more! The cake not only looks pretty, it tasted amazing!

Thanks again, Esther. I promise not to surprise you with a wedding cake order at the last minute ever again. :)

Isn't it a shame to cut such a beautiful piece of cake? Nope. That's the only way you get to taste it. :)

Mark gives his seal of approval. Way to go Gil and Darlene!

Michael enjoyed the barbeque. What's wrong with a siesta at a fiesta? The flash from the camera woke him up anyway... Sorry to ruin your nap, Michael. :)

Another somewhat related story: Once upon a time, while living in an apartment far, far away... Not really, it was before we moved into our house. I got a dumb speeding ticket on NW Military about a mile from our apartment. I also got cited for having the wrong address on my drivers license. I hadn't changed my address on my license since I had changed my name. We had moved twice. But we were just going to move again so I didn't really see the point. As with anyone who gets a dumb speeding ticket by a dumb constable, I saw the justice of the peace to request permission to take defensive driving and I showed a new drivers license with a corrected address. I paid my exhorbitant fees, watched defensive driving classes and passed the ridiculously easy tests online. The point of this story? The JP that I had to see for my ticket was the same judge that married Darlene and Gil. He was much nicer to them than he was to me. :) Oh and if you have an old address on your drivers license, go online, pay $10 and change it. The ticket is way more than ten bucks. AND -- I wonder if the judge was speeding to get to Darlene's wedding on time.
