I know it's difficult to keep up with the candidates. It's hard enough to decide who to vote for in the big races, so the "little" races sometimes get overlooked...
For those of you in Bexar county, let me help a little with a race that affects us all -- the sheriff's race.
As some of you may know, my dad works for the Bexar County Sheriffs Office. Since my parents don't live in Bexar county, he doesn't get a vote for his employer. I always ask him who he would rather work for and why. What better way to choose a candidate??
Dad's choice for the sheriff's race this election year is Dennis McKnight. The other guy, Amadeo Ortiz, according to my father, has shady ethics and would bring the same kind of problems that clouded former sheriff Ralph Lopez's tenure (accepting bribes in return for lucrative contracts for jail operations among other indiscretions.)
Dennis McKnight has been endorsed by the San Antonio Express News. He understands the issues that will affect the next sheriff. He knows that we need more officers on the streets and he has a real plan to put them there.
It is my fear that this race will not receive the attention it deserves. How laws are enforced in our own communities affects each of us perhaps more than he who resides in the White House. Don't leave this choice until the ballot is before you. Don't wait to decide based on which name you might have heard before. White, black, or brown, republican, democrat or independent, make this choice on who is qualified and who will lead. Dennis McKnight is the right choice for Bexar County Sheriff. Take it from my dad. He knows both men, and he has worked with both.

Finally! A candidate I can get excited about! The presidential election has me discouraged and looking for ways to resurrect Teddy Roosevelt! You've given me a reason to go to the poles this year! VIVA MCKNIGHT!
