Today.

I've done some crying. I'm not sure why this has been so difficult for me, but I'm sure it has a lot to do with my own childhood issues -- and a realization that my little boy isn't perfect. In October, Timmy failed his vision test at the pediatrician's office. Timmy doesn't really seem to have any issues with his vision, except sitting really close to the tv, but what kid doesn't do that?

I knew we needed to take him to the eye doctor, but I put it off. Yesterday was the day. Timmy and I both had appointments with the optometrist. My prescription hasn't changed enough to warrant a new pair of glasses. (That's a first!) And Timmy needs glasses. He has astigmatism worse than mine (and mine's pretty bad!) and he's farsighted (I'm nearsighted).

We took our prescriptions to Eyemasters. They are having a really good sale right now. :) I got prescription sunglasses, and we picked out some frames for Timmy. I think he looks handsome. I am a little biased though. Did I mention that they had a great sale? The grand total was less than $150. We saved over $200. Amazing!

When I was in second grade I got glasses for the first time. I remember feeling so excited that I could finally see clearly, but the adjustment was not easy. I had horrible headaches, and I had a really hard time manuevering stairs or curbs. Depth perception was definitely an issue. But I was thrilled that I could see clearly, probably for the first time in my life. And then I went to school. At the time, I went to a tiny school. There were about 20 second graders. Total. And I was the only one who wore glasses, and everyone made fun of me for it. Sometimes kids are so mean, especially to anyone that is different. And I was different. I have so many painful memories from that time in my childhood.

Hopefully, it will be different for him. He looks so handsome and grown up! He's so smart! It's amazing that he's doing so well with his letters and numbers and until today he couldn't see them clearly.

He DOES look handsome and grown-up and SMART! I love glasses, but I'm sort of geeky that way. Modern medicine is amazing, isn't it?

He looks very handsome in his glasses. Don't worry, I think glasses are "in" right now!

I agree he does look good in those glasses. No one wants there child to be different but the good thing about him getting them young is he will be used to them and so will the other children before teasing really starts. Hopefully that's the case anyways.
