Poetry

So, THE SWING SET IS FINISHED!!  I'm so excited that it is finally done, and the boys have had fun playing outside today.  It was a beautiful day too.  :)  I have pictures to post, but not enough time to post them.  Hopefully Friday...

On another note, I spent some time writing poetry over the weekend for one of my classes.  It's a linguistics class called the history of the English language, and the assignment was to write two poems, one of which uses mostly Germanic type words, and the other poem using French or Latinate borrowings...  Anyway, I think my poems are okay.  I may be an English major, but I am not specializing in Creative Writing.  I'm good at thinking about what other people have written, but I'm not great at creating my own stuff.  That said, you be the judge.

The Fiddle

A lively beat for lord and lady

the fiddler plays – and sings along.

Lord and kin, lady and friend,

come to dance amid the throng.

Step and kick and one, two, three …

The fiddle plays for you and me.

The Violin

Orchestra rehearsal, dress rehearsal –

Conductor, attired in black tie tuxedo,

                   signals decrescendo, fermata, violin solo,

Applauds, exclaims “Perfect!”

Orchestra performance

Damsel, bejeweled gown and hair,

                   emotions and violins crescendo

“Bravo!” Ovation.

Musicians curtsy, and curtain.
